They were producing them until 1988 but we didn't have access to the 'later records' as they say because there was a Customs Court Case (if anyone remembers the Matrix Churchill episide.............). So without saying any more, that has answered your question

It is a deactivated one . The spot on the barrel is from welding it . It also got 6 holes . Hust a Question of taking the pictures . The Breechblock is cut off . But you can get them here in semiautomatic ...

Thank you, Captain Laidler.
Maybe those records will be available eventually. I have a S 21000 number Mk4 and I'm a little curious.
Have you read The Sterling Redemption? It's not available here yet. I understand it covers Matrix Churchill case and the vindication of James Edmiston. I am waiting for it to be available here in the US,,, and your Bren book.

AndreasS,
Is it possible the finish was done when the gun was deactivated?
It looks very nice. Do you plan on making it into a semiautomatic?

@ Vincent . No , the finish was like that before , i have spoken to the dealer . I rather think it went through an overhaul , maybe iraq or so . As i said i have seen Sterlings on Photos from there with the same kind of finish . Thats why i thought it might possibly one of the first big batch sold during the Edmiston time .However... i will probably never find out . No i will not convert it at the moment . The last SMG i got life fireing again was too expensive compared to the result .With all permissions and BA test i had spent 1300 euro for that . It would be easier to buy a semi Thompson for example straight away . You get them here for arround 800 euro inluding the gun . The russian ones are even much cheaper 580 euro and they still have original reciever barrel and block .

I have a MK4 S22077 and it has the 'crinkle' finish. When I bought it a few years back I was told it was an ex New Zealand one but I'm not convinced it is as it has no N Z markings on it? Maybe they weren't all marked with the N /|\ Z (that's meant to be an arrow btw!) mark but I always thought they were?

NZ only PURCHASED one batch of Sterlings and these were the KR numbered ones. However, they did obtain another 800 (the figure varies according to, but it's about that - so said.....) or so from the UK Military from UK Ordnance Far Eastern stockpiles in 1970 but these will have been UF or US serial numbers

My Sterling serial number is in the KR series.
How can one find the year of manufacture?
