The strap looks to be a cobbled together equipment strap. Maybe used to be a carbine sling, but no more. The rivets are the star type and I don't think they had anything military about them.

The pouches appear to be original. But the sling is not USGI for a carbine.

It's not ANYTHING any more. I said it MAY have been for a carbine, but it's been done in. It's now junk.

The webbing and buckle looks like it might have been from a GI back pack. I had one with those buckles when I was a kid in the 50's. - Bob

I looked at the sling again. It was put together from parts . Junk for sure. Thanks all for the info.

How prevalent is faking of magazine pouches? It hadn't occurred to me that there could be much of that going on because of the need to make the manufacturing company logo appear correct etc.
Are there any known pouch logos and dates that are frequently seen in the market and considered "Fake"? If there are, I want to be forewarned and stay away from them. I have bought about 25 'USGI' magazine pouches in the last 6 month, and hope I've not been deceived yet.

I'd say it is pretty prevalent. This was from a three minute search on ebay. Look at the material used, snaps, construction. Not having a snap on a type 1 should raise a question, even though I have seen a few originals without one, not the norm. Some markings are obvious fake maker names. Others are using WW2 contractor names. Check fonts.
It's not just type 1 pouches anymore. I see type 2 and 30 round pouches also.
I haven't kept up with current prices. So I don't know what originals are going for now. Someone will chime in with todays numbers.

The easiest way to see if it is a fake is the terrible lift the dot fasteners the fakes use! Especially the fake 30 round pouches.
