About two weeks ago in the Washington Post there was a brief discussion of the reluctance of some civil servants in the federal government to accept overseas assignments in combat zones and other dangerous areas. If I recall correctly the main thrust of the discussion concerned the State Department and other noncombatant departments of the federal government. I believe the DoD Directive cited in the initial post gives DoD the ultimate authority to compel people to accept overseas assignments whether they want to go there or not. These conspiracy theories are spurious.
