Regarding Remington and M1903(A3) production I've attached a PDF document which lists the manufacturing numbers for each month.

Your rifle with a serial of 3.916.685 should have originally been produced in September 1943. Therefore a barrel date of 2-43 would be early for that rifle, but not impossible.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Where I'm from what the dealer tried to do if completed is a Class 3 Felony, Financial Exploitation of the Elderly. No offense Shady, you only have to be 60 to qualify and I'm eligible. Enjoy your rifle, looks and sounds like a winner.
