I just posted a video challenge for those that think the recoil of a Mosin Nagant is easy to absorb. Of course it is standing or sitting at a bench but shooting on the ground in the prone postions? Do people still do that?
Here is the challenge please join in if your interested.

25 shots in 1/2 hr. Full load at 300 meters. I don't pretend not to feel it, but holding a rifle butt is rather like holding a horse's hind leg for the farrier - you have got to hold it tight up against you. The trouble (with horses and rifles) comes when you are apprehensive and, precisely because of that, do not hold it tight enough. Give it a bit of space and it - horse's leg or rifle butt - can accelerate enough to really hurt you.
It's not clear to me - what exactly is the challenge?

OK, just deciphered the soundtrack. 40 shots prone in one session would certainly be an afternoon to remember. Having already been operated on the shoulder, I think I'll give it a miss!

Funny my friend is a ferrier and he was pretty sore last week as one of his customers gave him a push he wasn't expecting.
The challenge was issued so people would actually go out and aim, shoot and know what recoil was all about. I suspect you have enough rounds down range that this wouldn't be a learning experience.
There are now 4 video replies to my challenge. This is a must see for Mosin fans out there. These old battle rifles are pretty tough. Anyway one of the replies the cosmo is boiling out of the hand cover over the barrel.
