I agree with Brian about the shiny surface....... Just try holding that in the rain, wet and slimy monsoons. Don't get monsoons where you live..........? THey did where that rifle spent its working life!

I have another Question, were there different Stocks for the #5? I have seen at least a couple of #5s with kind of squared off Front Ends, instead of the rounded off like mine and no, they weren't the bubba'd kind made from #4 Receivers, they were sure enough # 5s!

Trung Si: I believe there were 3 different treatments of the forend- 2 styles of metal caps and the plain rounded wood.

Metal caps were sheer crap! Nothing would stop them rusting out from the inside..........., absolutely nothing! We would remove them, glue and peg the rivet hole (I seem to remember that the actual rivet was brass...., someone correct me if I'm wrong please) and make off the fore-end to rounded spec.
