    Cheers smleaddict. Those extra photo's are very helpful. FWIW I'm happy with it. I wonder if the faint numbers are the original serial which has been over stamped?

    You have an honest well-travelled No4 T. And don't worry about the atypical markings, for in fact they're typical for the time period it was made, or explicable by its refurbishment/re-stocking.

    I can go on holiday now with a clear conscience!! (Off to The Somme again tomorrow for two & a half weeks - my two younger sons will be at home if anyone calls, but please don't expect to get any sense out of them.).
