All matching 1916 Mauser AG Gew98 with night sight.
Went to a firearm auction today and came home with an all matching bring back 1916 Gew98 Mauser AG. Duffle cut. But the thing that really got my attention was the night sight on the muzzle. Have never seen one of these. Is it a pretty rare item? Would like to hear what you guys think..thanks!

Last night as I was giving this rifle a going over, I found a set of numbers on the side of the quick release sling swivel. They are '2 77'. Is this a regimental marking, or a company number and rifle number? Anyone else have a swivel marked similarly?

Actually, got that reversed....it's '7 22'.

Unlikely place for an ownership/unit marking, and a quick-release swivel is not part of the rifle. It sounds more like a date stamp (July 1922) from the manufacturer.

Don't know how it would be a date of 1922, as I'm 99% sure that this is a bring back from the Great War. It being all matching and duffle cut. A site, think it's called rollanet, shows a Gew98 sling attached to a quick release swivel that they claim is unit marked.
Hmm.

Ok, clearly I've lost what little is left of my mind today. Just got home, and the sling swivel is indeed '2 77', as I originally stated. The 2 is larger than the 77, and there is an Imperial marking next to the left of the 77.
