He didn't have a clue on what that helmet would be worth in 50 years. If it was SS it might bring as high as $20K!

But then again no one had much of an idea back then
A Rochester veteran started going back in 1947 collecting stuff.
His house was full from basement to attic.
Was personal friend of Rommel's son.
Forest gunth survived the war
Answered the final roll call in 2009
His memorabilia in now located in several European museums

When in Greece in 1971 I could have bought all the German
helmets I wanted for $25.00 each. Fallschirmjager helmets were $50.00. Man if I could go back.

There's a little museum located in Eldred, PA that is full of items just like that from attics and basements everywhere. Best museum this side of the National WWII museum! Also has a lot of goodies from a Russian
vet from the Eastern Front.

Mauser alright but not your typical K98
. Sling attaches at the bottom of the stock not through the side and a straight bolt. Maybe a G98???
