Huntng with milsurps 2013 edition
Deer season opened here August 15 and I have 2 so far with 4 months to go. First pic is from Aug. 16 but wasn't taken with a milsurp but I figured I'd include it anyway. Second pic is of a No.1 grade A meat deer I got this afternoon with my ex-Indian No.4 T. Shot was bout 100yds with PRVI 180gr SPBT.
My apologies for the lousy pics but in both cases the skeeters were wearing me out and I was ready to get the heck out of there.

Cannot get in the mood until it cools off. But you have me thinking. Hope you have a big freezer.

How many are you allowed? Any antler restrictions?
How do you cool the deer down? Bag of ice? Sorry for all the questions. Our deer season in Pa lasts about two weeks (firearm) and it is in the middle of winter.

Might be easier than trying to retype see here. http://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/deer-program.aspx
As to cooling. Spoiled. That is to say us not the meat as we have a processer less than a mile from where we hunt. Load him in the meat wagon job complete. Not like the olden times.

Some of my relatives run a processing business but I prefer to do my own, mainly due to cost. As for how I cool them down in early season I quarter it up then put it in a 150 qt cooler packed in ice along with a 1/2 box of salt for a day or two then hang it in an old fridge of 5-7 more days to drain. In winter I just let it hang for an hour or so to drip dry then straight in the fridge it goes.
We have a two per day limit but no seasonal limit. Horns have to be either 2'' or 3'' above hairline to be legal until doe season opens Sept. 15 then they can be tagged as an antlerless deer. The DNR has changed this several times in the last 34 years Ive been deer hunting and I really don't which it is ATM.
We have very few firearms restrictions for hunting deer on private lands in S.C. In fact the only one I know of is that it's illegal to use rimfires.

Given the librel limits and lack of restrictions deer have overpopulated S.C. as well. Gooood eating!

Infested might be a better term.
Now there's one less, two if you count the one I ran over on the way home.........

Weather in my parts are always warm during deer hunting season, 80-90degrees. We bleed, dress and skin the deer which helps to prevent spoiling. When back at the truck, we cover with a sheet to keep the bugs and flies off. Been lucky that the meat has never gotten sour for up to 6 hours in the field. The old photo below is one my partner shot with his M1
Garand, my rifle a Swede 96, is in the foreground.

Thanks for starting this year's thread, vintage hunter.
Wow! Early start for deer. We have to wait until October. Our limits have been slightly reduced this year due to the blue tongue disease that struck heavily last year.
I'd like to finally take one during black powder season using the M1861 or the P'53 sergeant's rifle.
