NO 4 Mk I Rear Sight Swap

I have two NO 4 MkI's, one US Property with flip sight and the other is a Long Branch with a micometer sight. I want to swap them out because the US Property has a much better trigger.My simple question is, are they right or left hand threads? I've put a fair amount of pressure with a good screwdriver, andI don't want to bugger up the slot, if I;m going the wrong way.

If you mean the transverse pin holding the rear sight, it's a pin with a smaller cross pin holding it in place. Look on the other end from the slot and you'll see. Use a very small drift and don't lose the tiny retaining pin. Then just tap the transverse pin out.

Or better still, just fix the bxxxxy trigger on the Long Branch rifle. There is a simple easy-to-read-and-understand article on this forum how to do it. Or am I missing something

I thought the simple flip sight was the correct one for the Savage? It'll probably be zeroed to it...

Wouldnt these have been swapped out by an armourer or at FTR though?

Who says that the rifles have been FTR'd? And in any case, we'd only replace if the part was unserviceable and/or obsolete. Obsolescence don't make it unserviceable. Obsolescence means in effect if it ain't broke, we don't fix it

The Long Branch dated 1944 was stamped (F) FTR '51, but, somebody drilled and tapped the left side of the receiver for a scope. So, trigger aside, I rather have the better sights on the US Property.
Were the US Property NO 4's ever originally fitting with the micro sight?

Apparently some had various sights fitted, but I think the most of them started out with the simple flip. A Canadian marked sight wouldn't be correct on a US rifle from the start, but perhaps that's not where you're headed with this...

Savage No4's were fitted MkI sights very early on, but soon went to the Mk2 sights like Longbranch did.
