They used to wear an early form of desert boots invented by a bloke called Captain Barratt of the 8th Army,. He eventually went on to own and run a large chain of shoe shops in the UKcalled, strangely enough Barratts. So there it is if you have ever bought a pair of shoes from Barratts. By coincidence, this liottle story appeared in the National papers here in obituary form a few weeks ago after the man himself passed on
In Aden, the terrain was toooo tough for crepe soled desert boots so leather soled/ammo boots or the later DMS boots with woolen socks rolled down over the tops were the norm.
