High Wood M1A1 Stock Second Issue
Hi I found a HW folding M1a1 stock & 149xxxx Inland at the gun show this week end . Dealer wants 3K . The stock is in incredible orginal condition Cartouch under the pistol grip HI marked . Passes all the tests in Ruths book . The Inland is nice but shows wear near the barrel markings Gun has second type band with hash marks ,Blue round bolt, Late slide marked PI Not m2 , & Adj sights All inland except the hammer whch is W . I figure the gun at 800.00 Using that logic is a HW stock worth 2200 . I know HW stocks are tough to locate but are collectors paying these prices for a paratrooper stock .That`s what I am really buying . ? It comes with a Paratrooper jump case . Thanks in advance for input .

lt1, I would figure the gun at $800 in a $150 stock, so gun alone at $650. The M1A1 stock describe as you say, probably $1,500 to $2,000. Original jump holster about $400. Para carbines don't come along very often. Now I think you have to decide how bad you want it. JMT

Thanks Frank for the advise .Been out of the loop on carbines . Better than a CD or Obama motors stock at the rates these things are appreciating .V

First of all the serial number is not an Inland number. A high wood M1A1 stock is serial number dependent and was used at the beginning of the second run of M1A1 production before the switch over to the low wood.

Well the serial number is a little bit too early for the accepted start of the second run M1A1. They started in the 5.1 million range about May 1944. To me a stock for the M1A1 is far too high at a figure of $2200 for it by itself. With a good carbine I would guess in my area it would be in the $2400 to $2500 range. I know the asking prices have been out of sight but in reality have they been selling for these asked prices or no takers?

Several collectors looked at the stock this week end . The stock is reported to be the HW first model with the IO marked grip made by Richardson.Larger grip that the later models . The stock is near perfect .. I am pulling the carbine & storing the stock for future use . As far as price I don`t see any higher quality 2,200 folders in my travels .All are 2,8 to 3,5. I do find oil soakers with replaced rivets & M2 cuts in the 2K range . Thanks for the input . V/Owens

An OI marked grip was made by Overton for Inland not Richardson. Richardson would be RI/3 marked grips. Almost all of the metal for the stock was made by Royal Typewriter.
