A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. For research purposes and comparisons, check the MKLicon for hundreds of close up pics displayed for both versions of the HT snipers.

1917/1945 No.1 MkIII* H.T. Sniper Rifle (Short Bracket)

1916/1945 No.1 MkIII* H.T. Sniper Rifle (Medium Bracket)

    Hope that helps...

    Regards,
    Doug

It was a long time ago but I recall a box, telescope, cleaning kit and leather caps for the telescope and scope. It also had a scope can. One of my very few regrets....

Here's a pic of an original box, two rifles (The box contained two rifles) two scope cases, two sets of leather scope caps, two TEL. SCT. REGT telescopes and their cases, two Owen Gun bayonets, a Britishicon sniper's pocket watch and a compass.

The box was decked out to hold two rifles with provision for two scopes in their cases. It also appears to be set up for two bayonets. I have included the Owen bayonets in this pic as they were apparently available for issue with the HT on request. Not sure about pocket watches and compasses in the Aussie kits. I'm told the rifles were issued without their crates so perhaps their wasn't much extra gear involved.

It was a long time ago but I recall that the Qld museum bought it...it is now welded up and no longer on display. As I said one of my few regrets.

When I get it can I send the photos to you for posting and your records? I am not very technical with such things.

Thanks to all the forum members for the assistance given to me in relation to this and several other purchases. I really appreciate it.

    Regards

    Craig

Once you get the rifle I will help you work through the details for my survey and if there is any more information I can get from it's markings, I will write it out for you. Also I have a brief history of them written that I will send to you.

The guys here will enjoy your pics, so if you can't load them up I would be happy to.

    Cheers,
    Brad.

    Brad,

    Thanks for the pic.

I'm assuming the inverted "This Way Up" is to emphasise the point that it's Australianicon????

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Interesting that the Owen SMG bayonet was part of the kit, you learn something new every day as they say.

Thanks to a certain Pime Minister ( JWH) we used to be able to have two one that way up full of 303s ( Lithgows of course ) and the other way up full of SLRS ( Lithgows of course ) Now days many of us just dream about what was or turned the empty one back to 303s and bought more Lithgows from O/S ( he tried to stop them being available to Australians )
    Like that photo.
