Sporter from Bubba's leftovers
The goal here was to make a decent utility rifle on a budget. When I got this the barrel was cut just forward of the sight (excellent bore) and both the receiver ring and charger bridge were drilled and tapped, badly. Additionally, the bridge was ground down about 1/8". The bridge is now gone and the barrel is 20" long and free-floating. I was inspired by the angle iron scope mount on Steve Redgwell's site but attempted to make something just a little more graceful. Excluding the scope and rings I've got less than $150 invested and it shoots very well so I think I'm happy.

Best angle iron base I've ever seen. Rear ring seems to be leaning backward or is that an illusion in the photo?

Nice. Clean, no-nonsense rifle. I like it.

That's a good one! I have an MLE with tapped holes in the same place (not drilled too straight though). I could do something like that for it.

Thanks. Everything is straight, the photo seems a little distorted.

How did you make the scope mount? It looks very nice.

Cut and filed from a section of 3/16" steel and parkerized on the kitchen stove. Attached with 8-40 countersunk screws.

Too late to edit my post. I should have added that a .006" steel shim fills the gap between the mount and the milled panel on the side of the receiver.
