What do I have?
Hello all I was givin a 1917 mauser. It has on top of the reciver waffenfabrik mauser AG, Oberndorf a/n and the serial number i z1232 all matching. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about it. History and what it is valued at. I know this is more difficult without pictures but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Thanks in advance for those who help and the thanks to those who put this site together.

As we used to say in the electronics lab: "If hitting it and cursing doesn't help, one can try reading the instructions".
Seriously, if you post the pics on this site, then we can all see them.
It goes like this:

They sell a kit for cleaning that surface rust off old milsurps that makes them look gorgeous after using , ill see if i can find the link , would remove every bit of that surface rust and old grime without altering finish. What do you guys use to get those letters so white on the receivers like that ? i would like to do a few i have with unique markings with the white so its more visible like that. But do not want to ruin a nice rifle, i see it a lot on forums is it white out or something?Scratching my head on what you guys use for that . i most times just leave em alone but i like how it brings the markings and numbers to top like that thanx my friend. And i have to say wish i had freinds gave away rifles like that ,score for you man, want to sell it?

For marking mine I use a marker called a Paintstik. Put it on, wait a minute and then gently rub off extra. Water proof also. Go to you local tire dealer and ask for one or part of one.
They are the same markers that they use to mark leaks on tires etc.
