Another L1A1 scope inquirey
This one should be fairly simple. I think. What bullet weight and MV is the L1A1 scope calibrated for? Might also be helpful to know the bullets B.C.
P.S. I have no idea why that little ugly face is in front of the title. I didn't put him there.

I run 150 gr SMKs or 155gr Palmas fairly regularly as good accurate NATO surplus just isn't heaped up on pallets any more. Some lots of Prvi Partisan 150gr ball do well, though. Not much difference out to 600m that I've noticed after the usual rezeroing.

I have found that the L1A1 scope works well with R.G. L42A1 7.62mm 155grn and R.G. L42A3 7.62mm 155gn. The L1A1 calibration is for the older RG Green Spot L2A2 144grn, but the modern R.G. L44A3 will perform very well up to 1000 yards.

I just happen to have a fair size stash of RG L2A2 I bought 10 or 11 years ago. None of my other .308/7.62mm rifles seemed to like it much so I just hid it away for a rainy day.

Try some and see. Some British
surplus ball lots are great, others, well,...fine for GPMGs and L1A1s. It seems to me 1989 and some 1990 lots were the best of the regular old black spot. Have never seen any green spot, much less tested any!

Here are some pictures of the R.G. L2A2 144grn green spot, and black spot both are from 1990’s. The white box (black spot) is batch 27.04.90 A4/1818, and the brown box (green spot) is 19.03.90W. I understand that Green Spot Target or Sniper ammo, was taken from the first say 1000 rounds of any one batch, this was to ensure tolerances are kept tight and not lost suffering from tool ware etc….
I do remember seeing Green Spot in Grey boxes in 1995, and then Blue boxes sold for commercial use in the 1999. Then the R.G. Comp 155grn took over in year 2000 or 2001. Later I understand that in 2003 R.G. 155grn L42A1, was the norm. I would agree that some batches do have “flyers”, and this apart from other reasons is why the main Imperial Meeting changed to RWS Ruag 308/7.62mm in 2009.

Mine's in the bottom of the ammo locker ATM, it's linked and in 200 round cans. Head stamped RG 78 IIRC. Definitely not the green spot stuff.
