No pictures allowed, seems silly to me. But they own the carbine.

A lot sounds good. I like that there are NO stake marks on the dove tail.

Not being able to take it apart limited what markings you could see. Recoil plate is probably marked on the side. Most likely not able to see the trigger either. Push safety should be unmarked. Did you check the leaf on the rear sight for a .U.?

The stock with after market sling attachments, arrrgh. Probably because he lost the band swivel. Which is not trivial. They aren't just floating around everywhere. You might be surprised at the cost of a type one band swivel. Does it have the correct band screw? As a shooter you can do an easy repair. As a collector piece, it hurts. Stocks can be pricey. No mag, no big deal. My state you can't sell one with a 15 round mag.

So you have some items you can use for negotiations without being pushy. Stock (not needed to shoot, but for collecting) $150+, swivel (find one)???, used mag $15-$20, even the brown coloring. Maybe offer $600-$625 and see what happens. That would be 22%-25% less then his $799 asking. He already went down a bit over 6% right off with $750. Most likely he won't take that, but see what he counters you with. Hopefully you can come to a number that works for both parties.

If you get it, bring it up here and I'll go through it for you. I know a little about Carbines having had a few hundred through my shop in the past 20+ years. I happily paid $1000 this year for a Quality Hardware that is near factory new condition and unaltered so the price isn't that far out of line IMHO. It's the most I've ever paid for a Carbine and the only rifle I put away all year.
