I would too. You could fiddle with the height of the front blade to get it close to the range markings if you wanted to, or at least one range marking.

Snagged a carbine stock off of ebay, it had been de-sporterized. It has a chip on the buttplate. The guy threw in the buttplate, band spring and a 1898 band. Much better than what I had.
shame it got buggered , the nice part about a 99 is that there is no question it was built as a carbine ,
