Peterson's still lists an excellent condition RC at $400 but admittedly, they seem to be going for a little more than that. $650 seems way too high for an RC, even today.

RC's are essentially rebuilt rifles so unless it's actually been used, they should nearly all be in excellent condition. The shellac does look pretty bad so yours being removed may make it appear to be in better condition.
