    If I understand your post correctly and it is an Argentineicon the wire in question (along with another at the north end) hold the upper hanguard in place.

    HI, yes, it is a 1909 Argentineicon. Between the rear spring clip attached to the handguard and the barrel band, don't see how the wire is needed. What am I missing?
