H Barrel Rear Sight
G'Day,
Can anyone advise how to enlarge the rear sight to suit a Lithgow
heavy barrel? Is the best method to forge the ring to suit the larger diameter barrel, or can they be machined to suit. I also have a rear sight bed off a older version enfield without the barrel band, would that be better to use? It was originally soft soldered on.
Thanks,
Rastis.

The easy answer is to contact Brian Dick
and have him do it (or supply one) for you.

Maybe even easier, since you are in Queensland, if you ring up Kingaroy Firearms, they might be able to help.
I got some reamed-to-fit rear sight bases to suit heavy barrels from them last year.

Not too bad.
I didn't have to drive them on that last little bit - some may say that that is not tight enough...

As long as the sight bed is "firmly" on, the combination of the screw for the sight-leaf spring AND the cross-pin will certainly hold it there.
If in doubt, make sure the assembly (bed and barrel ONLY) is scrupulously clean and apply a few drops of Loctite 390 "Super Wick-in" in suitable locations. Make sure it is DEAD square first, otherwise you have about ten seconds to "change your mind".

G'Day,
I'll give them a ring. By the way how much did they charge?

PM sent; you'll need to ask them for the current price.
They in the past offered a service where they would ream a standard sight base supplied by the customer; not sure if this is still the case.
