M1 Carbine mags in Canada and shipping to Canada from US

Gor our knowledgable Canadian brothers, I have a question (actually two).

Are 15 and 30 round magazines for M1 Carbine legal in Canada?

Can I ship magazines to Canada from the US?

A Canadian forum member contacted me about buying the excess O-kay and AYP 30 rounder carbine mags I am selling in the WTS thread. I want to know the legalities of it.

I believe there is a little thing called International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

US ITAR regulations are very clear. The exporter (i.e. you) need an export permit no matter how much or how little your shipment of parts costs. The shipment itself (i.e. the parts themselves) also needs a license. An exporter with a permit (which I presume you are not or you wouldn't have asked the question in the first place) can get an exemption for the shipment's license if the cost of the shipment is less than $100.00 USD but you still need the permit.

Some parts are explicitly not allowed to be exported such as parts for designated military or military type firearms or rifle scopes with 'military technology'.

You can also bring NO reloading components or loaded ammunition. You can bring tools, cleaning supplies, refinishing products, bipods, slings, scope covers, and other things that are not firearm parts.

I'm sure some of our northern friends can add to this.

The problem with any rifle mag is they can only be 5 rounds cap. These mags would all have to be permanently blocked to hold not more than 5 rounds or no allowance into Canada. This isn't a simple rule as an individual I know went to a US show and purchased scads of 30 rd AR mags and took them back to his hotel room...drilled, pinned and tested them to hold 5 rds each. Perfect. He was going to make a fortune...when he arrived at customs, the mags were seized and he never was able to recover them. What a surprise. I was also speaking with Brian Dick about this subject, if he sees this he may have more on this, basicly it's like JimF was saying though. Sort of complicated...

JimF is pretty much on the money. All parts shipments outside of the USA ARE controlled under ITAR. A registered exporter can ship up to $500 worth to Canada without an export license but AES still applies and an International Transaction Number, (ITN), must be obtained before posting or shipping. We can ship up to $100 elsewhere in the world license free with the required AES ITN. Gunsmiting tools and some accessories also require export licensing.

2 -30 rounders, yeah took about a week, it was before I knew of any laws like the ones listed above

Uh....if you didn't know of any laws, why didn't you put a return address on it? (The devil made me do it! LOL)
