Precourser to the Canadian EAL rifle survival rifle found
]This rifle showed up this weekend. Dimensioned the same as the later EAL rifles but fitted with a unique front sight assembly. The forestock is shortened and the lightening hole plugged with a piece of walnut and shaped to fit.
The buttstock had a funky masking taped note that did little other than hide the permanent magic marker price added some time in the past. Certainly not what I paid. There has to be a special place in the hot place for clerks who do things like this.

Interesting variant. I've got a very early EAL with a stock set identical to one on your pictured rifle. I've seen the front sight somewhere before however can't place it. Maybe Warren will have a more information as he's got lots of EAL history. Ron(Canada

If your inclined to remove the marker alcohol should do the trick. Then apply a little RLO to the spot,,good as new...

Or just start moving the decimal to the right a few notches...

Could we see a closeup that shows what the backsight is resting on in the down position?

Much changes, much remains the same.

The rear sight is not resting on anything. It can be pushed down about 1/4 inch below horizontal. I suspect it was made with a Mk2 L flip rear sight and someone added the CM3 sight at a later date.

That would make sense. They wouldn't be looking at long range for a survival rifle. Most of those aircrew never shot much and would have problems at any ranges...

I too had one of these rifles. Mine was in grey park just like an FNC1. And it had a Mk II flip sight vs the Cmk3 in the first post.
Receiver is cut exactly the same as an EAL. (compared them side by side)
This now makes 3 of them I've seen.
