They COULD, especially if India got Mk1*T rifles when the British
left. But as a author who learned the hard way, never say never!

Peter, I did once see one amongst a heavily linished batch of ex-Indian 4T's at Charnwood Ordnance. It must have been about 20 years ago now. At the time Charnwood had quite a few of these Indian converted Mk1/2 rifles & in amongst them was one ex-LB Mk1* rifle & one ex-Trials example. Of course you really had to look at them to ascertain what they once were as the Indians had done their usual.......er....thorough job of obliterating all of the original markings at the time of conversion to Mk2 spec. It's the only one I can ever recall coming across - but as you indicate - there may be a few more out there.
