Carbine Bolt I.D. Marks
I have a Inland Carbine, 822xxx, with a Inland 9-43 barrel That I have owned for over 30 years. I finally broke it down this weekend and found identification marks on the bolt lug as follows: IO which would be Inland with a 2 on the same lug. Can anyone tell me what the 2 means? Thanks.
Also, it is a round bolt.

Just guessing, an inspector mark? Doesn't really matter, the original bolt for your carbine was a flat top.

Your serial number is around the last quarter of 1943. The 9-43 barrel also trends to that.
I think a type 2 flat bolt with either a sideways 1 or 2 and upside down OI on the lug.
The #1 was used about OCT 1943-Jan 1944.
The #2 from about Nov 1943-March 1944.

Thanks for all your help. I have owned various carbines for the last 50 years and have just recently starting searching for information about those carbines. I have learned a great deal by posting questions on the M1
carbine forums and also by reading your responses to other folks' questions. Again, many thanks.

So back to OP's question ... what does the 2 mean? What's the difference between a bolt marked "1" and a bolt marked "2"? Or did Inland simply contract with the Government to switch the stamping of bolts from "1" to "2" in November 1943?

So.........
What about these markings?

If they were each found in thier own range / time period , I'd say an individual's inspection mark .
If found throughout all ranges , then the above or a production line stamp so if there was a problem they could narrow it down to one line to fix and / or recall that number bolt.
