Well, as the driver you wouldn't have thought much about the burn time after you encountered the closed hatch.

A 113 of 8-RAR hit a chicom mine outside Xuyen Moc (excuse spelling if it's totally wrong) and it killed 6 I seem to remember. A big hit for one Battalion on one day especially when Douggy Baker got it the day before. I always seem to remember it being said that the pommy 432 equivalent was better protected. They're still in service as we speak too!

We had a couple hit mines in Bosnia and one was one of my troops driving. It struck the right outside end connector and blew up into the engine compartment. The engine was knocked off it's mounting and destroyed it's self...the driver was driving too far forward and had his jaw over the driver's hatch ring forward. His only injury other than ringing ears was a broken jaw. He didn't understand how lucky he was until I sent him to the library to look at pics of tanks that had hit mines in WW2. Then he stopped smiling...

It is really sort of sad, but I'm reading these and thinking a bit, and actually chuckling to my self. Gotta be quiet, my students are taking a test.
It's funny how you think about and remember the funnier sides of that life.........long after it is over. I guess it's the mind's way of coping with it.

We are now replacing the plastic butts on our existing L7 guns with wood - again! Plastic has a dire attrition rate in the heat. The shape of the wood ones is the same so the fittings are interchangeable. Like they say, '.....there's nowt as good as wood'

Johnny,
Yes I can see that its an IDF camp, cos if it was a British
one, we would have got those in the "jail" at the time, painting the sand grass colour behind that line of boulders.
Not that I ever got jailed you understand

First thing I noticed when we got the C6s was the beautiful European walnut they'd used on them...the early ones in '86-'87...
