Reloading 7.62X54r

Since I have a Polish M44 on the way I decided to start reloading for it.

I plan on starting with Igman brass, WLR primers, maybe BL-C2 as a powder and Hornady 150gr SP's for the .303 (.312).

Die's will be Lee I think, FL resizing only. Why Lee doesn't make a collet neck die for this cal. is beyond my understanding since they do for 7.62X39.

Any advice welcomed,

I'd consider trying Vaget or H4895. Also, a good place to start is with the Hornady .312 174gr or 150gr projectiles, depending if you're duplicating heavy or light ball.

WLR primers are fine for the Mosin, but if you shoot an SVT, switch to CCI No.34's.

Frankly I sold my SVT. Too much of a PITA to clean it after corrosive shooting and too hard to find the brass in the long stuff if I use good reloads.

It ended up just being a rack queen and I prefer to Mosins anyhow. So it's gone. No regrets. Wouldn't buy another.

It's not too hard to find one of the Globe chopped SVT's in the $250-300 range. Add a new muzzle extension and you're good to go. It'll still have the short mag, but it's pretty close.

The Globe butchered ones really don't agree with me. I get a sick feeling in my stomach every time I see one.

I'm going to try to get a M91/30 later in the year, need to save up the pennies

Oh well, it just gives me more money for ammo.

I'm not referring to the .303 ones, but to the ones in 7.62x54R that only had the mag shortened, the barrel extension chopped, and a Lyman sight dovetailed into the gas block. With the neew barrel extension on mine, it looks like a regular SVT, except for the shortened mag.

I didn't know there were Globe's in 7.62X54r, I thought they were all converted to .303.

Your rifle looks pretty good. Might be doable for me.

Where do you get the barrel extensions ?

This must have been the "budget" Globe sporter SVT model. Unfortunately, all of them were built on Finn capture rifles.

I got the extension/brake/gas block assembly from Numrich, in the US. The barrel is still shorter than stock, but it shoots fine.
