And this .50 cal water cooled sight is very close to the M1917 water cooled .30 sight.

Model 1919A4 or A6 rear sight
Attachment 51637Attachment 51638
I have shot quite a few 1919A6's and 1919A4 and did not have to pay for the cartridges either ! (photo) and never seen the BMG 50 cal peep sight mounted on the 1919 receiver except for the photo in this posting. Also interesting is that there are few if any, photos of the 1919 series with the scope attached while there are even pre WW2 photos of the BMG M2 50 cal with a scope attached.
To be technical concerning the BAR, the Model 1918 and 1918A1 used a 1600 yard leaf which was the same as the US Model 1917 Enfield, later the Model 1918A2 used the 1500 yard leaf scale

When I was much younger and being issued .50 cals, we had the dovetail mounts for scope or night sights as common issue. Not all of the guns had them but many did. We had no telescopic sights for them though. Never even saw them.

That's not the same one as you pictured above. Ranges are different and marking at the top is different. Anyway...

That's also a 1917A1 not a 1917, the sight's are different again between the 17 and 17A1.

My "Handbook of the Browning Machine Gun Model of 1917 caliber .30 Watercooled", Office of the Chief of Ordnance Revised July 1, 1917, show only a rear sight with a 2800 meter range because the rear sight is graduated in meters. The handbook goes on to say that this rear sight is practically the same as the one used on the Vickers machine gun Model 1915. If you look at the Benet-Mercie Model 1909 in 30-06 caliber, the rear sight follows the same design too

That is what I been trying to say, they are all Browning sights & you can`t say unless it is specifically marked that the 1500 m. sight, or the 2400 m. sight, or the 2600 m. or the 3200 m. is specifically for any one MG, unless it is specifically marked.. Thats why I said the OP`s picture was off a 1919, because thats where I had seen it..................

Yes, you can say. They are all different and different guns. The ones on the 1917 isn't the same as the one on the .50...practically isn't the same. And you haven't really been trying to say anything. He asked what the sight was for and we've told him. You've shown us sights for other guns.
