Found this neat ammo can
Hi guys just wanted you to see this neat old ammo box i found in the gun smith estate. wish it was full of ammo.

It says South African ammo in red on the box but the HN indicates Hirwan in Wales. Or am I missing something here?

I'd like a pound note (probably collectible in its own right) for every one of those boxes that I have chucked, smashed for firewood etc. Grrr!
How about this scenario? The ammunition was made in Wales, shipped to SA and from there at some point shipped on to the US where it was mislabeled.

I think the red stamping is not original to the box as you are correct, it contained ammo made at ROF Hirwaun, Wales.
It is am H51 crate which contains an H52 tin liner. Two H 51 crates fitted in an H50 steel outer.

You really think the Yanks made a stencil just so they could mis-label a box of ammo for an Enfield, warning about use in a MG?
