My second K98 lsr Mauser build, but this time in 8mm.06
This is my second lsr sniper k98 build , the top rifle was a 200.00 cabelas all scrubbed markings off the rack special czec brno with winter trigger guard, Bottom rifle is a 42 8mm.06 chambered k98, i got it in a sported stock , scored a nice k 98 stock and got exact same mount and scope , Weaver k4's for project.
I have to say i love the 8mm.06 round , far superior to the original 8mm mauser , should make a great long range shooter rifle. You see the 8mm.06 round laying next to the 8mm mauser my brno lsr shoots both my handloads. I know what the brno is capable of but cannot wait to see how far i can stretch the 8mm.06 range and performance over the 8mm mauser rifle , be 1 great shoot out lol. That range report will deff come soon.
I did all the work on top rifle wood, rebluing, trigger polishing job, mounting scope mount and scope. The second will be easy to do. This will be an interesting shoot out between the two rifles. The top rifle is very accurate to 500 meters, that is as far as i have shot with it so far it can do farther both have mint bores. I think this should be a great comparison of the original 8mm mauser and the wildcat cartridge its up against , both are 170 grain bullets. and i have loads in 150 grain for both for this match up. Both are loaded with 4064 powder, the 150 grain have cci 200 primers and wlr primers,, the 170's are same primers and powder. Data from the hornady manual.

yea they sure do reticle is almost exactly like the german ones, they have the three posts crosshairs. And compared to the price of an original german scope or even a repro, cant beat the k4's

that looks like an awesomely fun build ! I am curious about the low cheek weld, compared to the height of the scope. Do you use a cheek pad? like a leather Garand
pad? or just hold your head up?

I dont have any problems with the heigth of the scope , not near as high as the high turret mounts, sits just above rear sight leaf and i rest my cheek on buttstock and fire, looks higher than it is trust me , no problems with cheek weld at all on my first czec model, should be same on this one.

Two Great looking rifles, Congrats ! That 8mm-06 should really impress ! Keep us posted on the build. That one's gonna be great!
I do have a DUV-41 model 98 that I have been contemplating a 9.3x62 Mauser.
But I haven't pulled the trigger yet. LOL

And we are done with the 8mm.06 build, now we are off to range in a few days after i load up some 8mm.06 for range report on these two rifles, this should be interesting , i still haVE to give the 8mm.06 the slight edge due to the larger case capacity over the 8mm mauser at long range but we shall see we have mil-surp 220 grain yugo and 196 grain yugo ,along with my personel handloads for the 8mm, i have 170 grainers and 150 grainers too load for 8mm.06 , rifle came out looking outstanding and in 8mm.06 i may have the only 8mm.06 lsr sniper mauser in world lol, who knows if this has ever been tried with the military mounts like this on a wildcatted mauser , well it has been done now lol, and i scored an original ww2 mauser sling for it on flea bay,the other is a repro on my czec , total cost of the 8mm.06 build, just under 700 bucks i have in entire rifle.

I got it off of ebay from accumounts, comes with the screws, drill bit, tap, and mount, they are not cheap but are identical to the originals and very well made but you will have to use a dremel and inlet the stock a little for the base.
I paid 200.00 for that 1 . the one on my czec brno build i bought off another forum for 120.00 from a guy just happen to have an extra.
but you can find them in the 180.00 to 170.00 dollar range at times without the drill bit and tap from accumounts , i would not go with any other repro mounts but this one honestly if you go with the lsr platform , it is very solid when mounted right. they have the windage adjustment on the mount in back and all, you can still use the open sights with the scope mounted ,as well as remove the scope from base without losing zero when remounting it and clamping it down.
T/Y mr tahoe, i am kind of proud of these two as well, should be able hit the range this weekend we will have the shootout ,i cant wait lol. Should be interesting.
