I plan to sight my .308 in for three inches high at 100 yards at the gun club. Would it be ok if I set a target up at 50 yards and had the POI at 100 yards? Or is that too high?

Couple of factors that are needed here.
Bullet weight and muzzle velocity and then you will get a more accurate answer.
OOOPS, forgot scope height above bore and ballistic coefficient of the projectile.
Off the cuff I would guess 2 inches high at 50 will be close but that may be wrong.
After thinking about this more and not having the details needed to be accurate I think 2 inches will be too high at 50 yards. It is so dependant on bullet weight, muzzle velocity etc.

Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

.308....... 1.5" high at 50yds will equate to 3" high at 100. The variables mentioned will make negligable difference at those ranges
