LC 53 was on the misfired round.
I'll have to look at the bandoleer when I find it back at home.

I just checked my LC 52 ammo and it also likes a magnet. No problem shooting it though.

Guys,
I pulled the bullet from a round of LC 52. The copper jacketed steel bullet weighed 106.9 grains and sticks to my magnet like glue. The propellant is very fine ball powder weighing 11.2 grains.

Is the core mild steel? Can you cut it with a file? It would make sense because a steel core can't weigh the same as lead core...that's why the M855 is longer...

Are we sure the "steel" bullets aren't the counterfeit L.C. ammo circulating a while back with Berdan primers? Suspected to be Chicom.

I'm sort of with you on this Karl. I have no dog in this fight, I can't even buy this ammo if I wanted to...

For what it's worth I just now pulled down a round straight from a can of lot L C 50-197 from CMP the mildly magnetic ammo everybody is excited about. The lead core melted out quickly with a hobby type propane torch. It's boxer primed, loaded with very fine ball powder the headstamp is L C 71. No steel core or AP sorry.
