Strange modification to B-Tripod??
Has anyone any information on the modification seen here to this tripod?
Note on the forward leg, next to the AA lug, there is a welded on angled shelf added there. Any ideas/information as to why this was done, or by whom?

That extra lug with a hole in it (photo 1) looks to me like it's a space for another Bren to be mounted. Quite why is anyones guess as they's both be in the same vertical plane if it was for double AA fire. Firing a Bren in the AA role always seemed like a death-wish to me. You fire 30 rounds of tracer at him, say 500 yards away but he comes back and fires 20mm HE at you from a mile away!
I'm sure that you'll get a few more 'wisdom of the crowd' answers

I saw this one on ebay too. I think a civilian owner has done it. It looks like horrible angle iron and just gets in the way when it's set up in the ground role. I wonder if some one has made it so they can fit a Bren and say an MG34 on it (Not at the same time).
If you've bought it, I'd cut it off and tidy the weld. If you give me the serial number and maker I may be able to give you some info.

Nope, I didn't buy it......just pondering the why/what for of who did this....
The only thing I could possibly come up with is that maybe it served as a spare magazine "shelf"?? Looks like you could lay a spare magazine there on the shelf ready to grab....???

Magazine shelf........? Nope! That tripod, especially in the AA role, even bedded down was about as stable as a one legged man in an arxx kicking contest!
