And the response can be emailed to here:

    deactivatedguns@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

I would suggest that any such measure would have to be backed up by evidence rather than anecdote.

And I would add this snippet of damning evidence (note evidence not anecdote):

"The most recent Home Office firearms figures from 2005/6 show that reactivated or deactivated firearms were recorded as being used in just eight offences, out of a total of 11,084.

Reactivated handguns were used twice; deactivated firearms were used four times; and other reactivated firearms were used twice."

I'm no mathematician but even I can see this is a proportion so minuscule that it is statistically insignificant.

Holy moley - just been reading through the document:

The most recent crime statistics involving the use of deactivated firearms are set out in the table below.
    2004/05 2005/06 2006/07 2007/08
    Use of reactivated handgun 2 2 2 1
    Use of other reactivated firearm 0 2 1 2
    Use of deactivated firearm 1 4 2 2

Please read the document helpfully linked to by Kev and reply in considered fashion. And don't forget - once they further erode rights on these they'll get on to FAC firearms too.

    The point is......

that once the general public believe that there is a problem with deactivated firearms the police/home office can then say "look how well the handgun ban has worked. Real guns are now so rare that deactivated guns are being used instead". It's all smoke and mirrors.
Personally, it breaks my heart to see a gun (especially a valuable one) neutered in such a way.

[size="3"]There are democrat party members that do not agree with the leadership on the subject of firearms bans. It may prove impossible to pass one. Those of us living west of the Atlantic must pay attention to the political veiwpoints of our elected representatives at the county and state level. It is distressing to see the low regard that our leaders have for the 2nd amendment. It seems they are ignorant of the reason it exists. Let us hope the citizens will remember or realize that they are sovereigns and will be jealous of their freedoms, all their freedoms.

I guess time will tell how much we value our freedoms. You can bet your bottom dollar this current bunch of "leaders" we so astutely elected will will severely test our love of the second amendment and the first amendment for that matter. As an aquaintance of mine says are we going to be PEOPLE, or SHEEPLE!

Anyone see this 'story' in the Sunday Times today (I'm not I hasten to add a normal reader of the Sunday Times, just had to go through it for work purposes.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle5950486.ece

It begins: "HIGH-POWERED magnum handguns, almost identical to those used by Thomas Hamilton, the Dunblane child-murderer, are being legally kept and used by firearms enthusiasts."

It's hardly anything new (ie a new firearms innovation) that these guns are around, but always a worry when it appears in the national press...
