My non-arsenal refinished Winchester's stock is unmarked except for a "K"
I have a Winchester (SN 1,079,xxx) in WWII configuration in an oval oiler slot, high-wood stock that has only one marking that I know of.... a "K" stamped inside the stock between the mag well and the trigger well. This rifle has all Winchester parts, but there is no "W" anywhere on the stock. There is no indication of any marks in the sling slot, and the routing marks are still clear, so I don't think any were sanded off. I can't find any stock manufacturer with a "K" stamp. Can anyone shed some light on this? Another poster on another forum said the "K" looked like an inspector's stamp.

Not all Winchester M1 carbine stocks were marked in the slingwell. Occasionally, they did put different letters and numbers on the bridge behind the slide well and on the inner right side sort of even with the trigger housing opening. Remember also, that Winchester stocks have a pretty flat fore grip, angled cut in the slingwell and a thicker pistol grip area...plus some other things that I will be reminded of soon by other members!

I wonder if Keystone had a contract to make any carbine stocks? - Bob

cantgrowup,
Welcome to the forum. Some times you leave with more questions then you came in with. But everyone is helpful.
We have some good stock guys. One (Frank) has already responded. Pictures would be a benefit. Right side rear, sling well, bottom of grip, barrel band area, top inside view, full both side views. That gives a little more information to voice an opinion. Then of course we want pictures of the metal parts and markings. If you haven't posted pictures before we have a thread explaining how in our sticky section.
How do I show pics from Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack etc. on milsurps.com?
You can also look through older threads and/or use the search feature in the tool bar.
Enjoy the forum. Jim

Keystone didn't make any stocks for carbines like this one but Winchester did use both numbers and letters in there stocks at different times. If Keystone ever did make stocks they would have been very late war/post war time frame.

Wra 1,079,?
Do you have my old WRA Carbine? It was 1,079,379. I saw it sell at a auction last year. I put a stock just like you describe with no external marks. But I am sure it was a WRA stock.

Definitely a Winchester stock the. When you talked about where the K was, I was pretty sure what you had. Very nice looking early Winchester.
