Star on the stock is a Chinese marking. You'll see them also stamped in the wood of Chinese Type 53s. If you had a star on the receiver next to the serial number, then yes, North Vietnam.

Or this larger Star?
I found some info that this star was soviet on this site Yooper John

That larger star on the Yooper site is the Tula factory star.

Yep, part of that new batch that showed up from who knows? There will be a few at the fun show tomorrow, think Ill get one. And then spend the rest of the day swimming around in cosmoline
