    Question M95 Chilean Mauser?

I mentioned this rifle in a different thread, but, a new question just came about. I just got off the phone with a friend and was telling him about my newly acquired M1895 Chileanicon Mauser. When I told him it was a DWM, he told me It shouldn't be. That it should have been made by Lowe. Who am I to argue, I just picked it up. I'm not complaining, just confused. It looks very correct and un-messed with. The markings look correct, I think. I didn't pay a whole lot for it ($175.00 US) so again, I'm not complaining. I'd just like to have the facts straight before I log it into my book. Any input will be very much appreciated. SDH

A DWM made Chileanicon huh? Can you post a pic? If not, e-mail it to me and I'll post it for you. Claven2@milsurps.com

I've never seen one that wasn't a Ludwig Loewe.

That seems likely, though I think a majority of Boer contract Mausers were also Loewe, weren't they?

Boer rifles were made by DWM and Loewe. See "small Arms of the Anglo Boer War" Bester.

I'll have to check it out - don't have a copy of Bester's work yet. Anyhow, I'm not saying DWM didn't make M95's, only that I've not seen one in person I've handles maybe 5 or so OVS mausers made at Loewe.

Thanks guy's, maybe I'm not looking at it right, perhaps its a different model and not an M95. I checked the Ball book and It dos look like a model 95. Heck, I'm still confused. I tried sending some pics this morning but was pretty tied from a long painful night, so I'll try again later. The only thing I can say for sure is the markings on the drivers side read; Mauser Chileno Modelo1895/Deutsche Waffin-und Munitionsfabriken/Berlin. Serial #K2871 with what looks like a circle with a horizontal slash trough it and the Crest has the horse, shield, chicken and star in it and also has the same Crest on the stock with 1898 under it. The barrel measures 29" . On the stock there is a number I can't read with a star of David under it. The metal that is stamped with numbers match the serial # and the parts w/o a serial number have a small circle with a cross or crossed hammers. If anybody has any ideas, I'd love to here em-SDH

Sure sounds like a Chileanicon DWM made M1895. Pics didn't come through though...
