What's that mark under the date stamp?

AFAIK nobody has done any research on the odd marks found in the barrel date area. We assume they are inspector view marks, but no one really knows.

What are the markings on the trigger housing and hammer ? also on the op-rod ? Any other markings on the stock. You don't normally see rack numbers stamped on aftermarket stocks if that is what the number 23 on the grip is.

No other markings on the stock, when I noticed that, made me think it was more original than before...but stock doesn't appear to be walnut..

The stock does appear to be walnut. Very nice walnut...the impressed numbers would be a rack number. The gun is probably a return from one place or another, some came back about new.

There are to many unknowns for anyone to give you an fair apx. value. We could only take a guess based on what we see. All we know now is that the receiver was manufactured in March 1945 and the 3 45 barrel would seem to be original to the build. The bolt is correct.
The trigger guard should be stamped, not milled. It should have a Type 3 lock bar with square ends, not rounded. The face of the chamber looks to be finished, it should be in the white. This would indicate the rifle was refinished as a unit (barrel and receiver).
The rifle appears to be a partial restoration and also refinished. As to value, all I would feel safe saying, without seeing the rifle or many more pictures of the markings on the various parts, would be no less than $ 650.00, though it would no doubt bring more on an auction site such as Gun Broker.

If you were looking to sell it, a picture heavy post would help you a great deal. If you look back here, you'll find the 20 or so pics needed to give us an accurate idea of what parts are there. Otherwise a buyer is just grabbing on spec.

thanks for the knowledge, learned alot about the M1. i ended up selling it for $750 + 300 rounds of 7.62x39 Wolf FMJ. Thought the deal turned out pretty good.
