Romanian 8mm surplus pierced primers.

Took the M48 out to try this new surplus I picked up at the fun show, FIRST shot and got a pierced primer so I did what any guy with ear plugs and safety glasses on would do....kept shooting. Well, after shot two I could tell something was off and by shot eight I REALLY knew.! All shots are L to R. The rifle shot my handloads with zero issues with CCI primers but I get this with the surplus??

What's the protrusion supposed to be .055 to .065 right?

Perhaps they got cooked by sun or time, poor storage. It's possible it's a pressure thing. You won't know without a pressure gun to put them through. I wouldn't shoot those. I'd keep the bullets though.

That's happened to me wi 50s Yugo icon

through my M76 but never a prob wi the Rommy. Although I can't recall running it through a Mauser. I have. 70s I think. Bought about 4-5 yrs ago. Not the most accurate. Machine gun / plinking ammo. Not nearly worth ( IMHO ) what it's going for today. If you want ACCURATE corrosive You can get M75 sniper (for the M76) ammo from Wideners for about the same price.

Was dreading that at the range as GS455 points out it isn't cheap no more.
I got .070 thou on the M48 and .056 on a K98 icon

so I'm hoping it's just the pin. I got to thinking last night, I seat my primers well past flush so perhaps I've been getting away with it. If it happens with the 98 we know it's junk otherwise I'll trim the pin.

It's what I'm thinking. Be a week or two til I get to the range again but in the meantime I'm going to trim the pin to .060 thou....

The 8mm Romanian I purchase several years ago in the Spam can has brass casings . It looks like your's are steel. Is that correct?

I'm betting sharp edged firing pin or as you say perhaps just too long. Try rounding the sides off a bit first if it looks too square.
