Pedersen's last ditch attempt to beat the Garand
with a turning bolt in 30-06, but much too late. The lore has always said that a dozen were made, they turn up every once in a while for big money. About 30 years ago #2 was reportedly for sale in Massachusetts for $10,000. I couldn't track it down and it disappeared. It's interesting but a bit so what?

GY serial number 6 was offered for sale at an Ohio Gun Collectors Association show in 1994.
The asking price was $15,000.00 then.
I did not know there was a GX model. Thanks for the post.

This one at Julia's is GX #3, Springfield Armory has GY #3 donated by the Pedersen family in the 1960s. Because Pedersen designed both .276 rifles and carbines for SA in the 1920s, I'm guessing one of the two G rifles is longer than the other. I'm also thinking that maybe the "12 were made" lore was six of each?

Interesting "screw" design on the operating rod. What was the purpose of that?

That design looks to be the barrel. I'd suggest the barrel has a fluting the same as many of todays rifles to aid in cooling and they also claim it provides extra strength.
