Lots and lots of handling marks on that one. The M10 cleaning rod is out of place too...

Yeah sure, you'll get no argument from me. I understand that all rifles were test fired and I dislike the use of the word unfired, Even the word unissued is way overused, but my comment was in response to the previous post, that all rifles manufactured mid war were pressed into service.

The rifle appears to be one of the group that was sent to New Zealandicon during the war, it has the NZ mark and numbers stamped on the top of the bolt. I have a 1943 Long Branch with NZ markings and it's in like new condition, I don't think it was fired after leaving Canadaicon, it looks as if it sat in a warehouse throughout the war.

Most No4s here in NZ are 1942 LBs (my records so far suggest 70% ish) , a few % 1941LB's and a few more %, 1943LB's. I dont know how many no4s I have looked at in the last 2 odd years but mostly they vary from worn to clapped out with most heading towards the latter. On top of that the seller is new to the auction site having bought a few cheap parts last month and the pictures suck, so Im just soooo doubtful. No matter I am avoiding it, I just dont like ppl being ripped off.

SSJ your loss, that went for a fair price, there are plenty of excellant to near mint unfired from the factory No4s in NZicon, i have seen plenty & they go for a lot more than what this one went for, if i was a collector of the No4 i would have been all over this one, nothing i could see in that auction that would put me off, you just talked yourself out of a vg No4 at a good & fair price.

I was tempted by that, and probably would have bid if the timing had been better. Prices seem to just be going up and up on good condition Enfeilds in NZicon. Eg I got offered $2000 for a in the wrap No4mk2 a week ago-was tempted to let him have it at that price! But replacing it would be hit and miss these days

When exactly did that shipment of Long Branch No4's arrive in New Zealandicon?

We're told it was destined for the Canadianicon battalions in Hong Kong, but was diverted after the fall thereof, but is there any documentary evidence for that?

If it is in proof, which it has to be to be legally sold , it has been fired
