US Navy Victory w/ letter up for sale - USS Hornet
I just saw a US Navy Victory revolver up for sale on gunbroker. The seller has some backstory to it, supposedly was carried on by a flyer on the USS Hornet CV12. The gun is from 1942 so could be possible. Looks real nice and has a factory letter.

I've always wanted one of those little guns. Not that good shape though, I'd never shoot that one. Here in Canada
they're all .38 S&W so you have to change the cylinder if you want to shoot cheap. The Victory guns we get are all 5" BBLs too...not as sexy as the 4".

This Victory is .38 Special as all the US 4 inchers are. I have one about the same shape as the one in the auction and it is in great shape and shoots great. If you compare this one to others in auctions etc it is in very good shape, you can tell it wasn't refinished like alot of them were. a good percentage of them are beat to death. Further research on this one could prove interesting.
i disagree with you on the 38/200's with the 5 inch barrels, I have 2 of them and reload my own .38 S&W for them and cast my own bullets and I like them, the longer barrel gives it a balance to me. My big collecting interest isn't milsurps
it is Boston Police guns! I actually display my collection at gun shows to get new leads. Most of them are beat to death except the ones I acquired that were just before BPD changed over to 9mm
Check out my site I did for my collection http://www.bpdguns.com If you navigate to the pages with pictures and descriptions of all the guns click on the BPD weapons page link

Yes Ben, I think we've seen a display of your guns before here and they're gorgeous. I could load 38 S&W but choose not to. The brass around here is prohibitive to buy. I had a 5" with a 38 spl cylinder and it shot great, I just like the 4" better. I guess it's because we never see those ex-issue guns here. I have several K frame guns myself...one's a 6" 10. It'll hit things the shorter ones give me trouble with...
