The black refinish color looks like some of the "Greek returns" that CMPicon sold about 20 years ago. Like this rifle, one category was "low number Springfields" sold with a warning that they were not safe to shoot. Not a collector, not a shooter, it might bring the same as your other rifle.

There's no good reason to obscure the serial number of a gun, unless you have reason to believe that it is stolen.
