Pattern '18 Occular Lens
Attachment 57873Help Needed.
Today is the first day of our Annual Service Rifle shoot. 46 entries. 45 having a great day. 1 having not such a good day.
Bill shot his genuine No1 Mk3 HT in the 600m "Sniper" shoot. It appears that the rear mount came loose and the recoil on the next shot caused the Occular lens to crack.
We now need help to source a replacement lens.
Hopefully Peter Laidler
, Valley Sniper or another forumer can help with either a suitable replacement lens or advice as to where we can source one.
cheers
Paul

Mmmmm Leave it to me but in any event, if they are re-manufactured, they come a matching pair. This is because the glass available now doesn't have the same refractive index as it used to have so a mix and match just ain't possible - as I learned when I had a few single parts of the Sct Reg scope OG reground!!
Additionally to that, due to the refractive index qualities/issues, it can mean the duplex lenses differ in thickness and this can cause setting up problems.
Exact diameter of his broken lens please Paul?

Exactly the reason I only shoot low power/velocity cast bullets in all my snipers, Ray

The Australian
DoD must have had spares, and they were probably surplused off at some point; all lost and gone?

It might not answer the question, but that is a telescope for the Pattern 1914 rifle, so wrongly for the No. 1 Mk.III HT sniper rifle as you wrote? Or was that an error?

Mounts appear to be for P'14 as well, although judging by the marks on the tube they've wandered about a bit over the years.......or is that the point you were making about the ring moving? If that is the scope in question, could it have been a No3 Mk1* (T) your pal was shooting, rather than a No1 Mk3* (H) T ?
Paulseamus - please check PM's.

The rings are definitely spaced correctly for the No3 T, a fair bit further apart than the No1 MkIII* HT.

To the best of what I ever found out, a small quantity of D^D scope spares were sold off over 20 years ago and were snapped up. Have only ever heard rumours about them, never any concrete leads.

I know someone who knows someone (as it were) who ended up with some of the lenses out of AOC. A few years ago my pal got me a spare set I needed for a restoration project. But it was a few years ago now.....

Do the AOC lenses fit? If it's a possibility I will make some inquiries...
