Fun with a 41 Swiss

Finally found a mint centerfire one, epoxied on a 2-7 (USA) Burris, blew $100 on the custom case maker (still don't have them in six weeks), made my own (nice to own lots of dies). Loaded with 15gr 4227 and coarse Cuban corn meal as filler and a 320 gr .430 gas check, off to the range. Results were excellent @50 yards and I'm sure 44 Magnum heavy bullet ballistics will be easy to meet when I set up the Chrony. Will probably go Antelope hunting next year.

Moved out to 100 yesterday and after compensating for 8" drop, shot 8 into 2.5 x 3.5" with six in 1.5".

Caution: the cases I had made came from GAD cartridge company.

in a word they are crap. Nowhere as good as the ones I made with my lash up rig.

The cases are “lumpy", many of the mouths out of round and not cut off square.

Just tossed in flat rate box with no padding or packaging.

That combined with the lies about delivery, cashing a second check after being told not to, put him in the “stay away from hopper”.

I wouldn't bash him about that too much. Ive seen the same thing with Federal, Remington, Winchester and Starline cases. They're not always fully finished and ready to load, most will require FL sizing and running through the trimmer to get the length right or square the mouths.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The 8mm Lebel cases I bought from Huntingtons were ready to go (had I that rifle). I've never had a bad Privi case and in almost 60 years of hand loading, I've yet to get a new factory case that wasn't ready to go after neck sizing and chamfering. These 41 Swiss will have to be FL sized, trimmed and chamfered just to get them ready to fire form. Then a second trim may be needed.

The only exception are belted cases which are always too short to the shoulder and need to be given a false shoulder to headspace on when fire forming.

They do. But he's in charge here...so let's not argue...
