I apologise if you feel I'm not being helpful. I'll elucidate my posts.
The getting upset thing arose out of placing a couple of posts requesting help on squishing bullets - and then the 'conversation' continuing around me without any acknowledgement, not even a b**ger off.
I appealed again for help after quite a pause and received it via PM from Mr E. He has requested that I don't put this information on an open public space. He has replied to me that he is prepared to help individual forum members so I'm a little at a loss as to why he hasn't PM you.
I intend to try an adaptation (& hopefully improvement ) of the method and equipment shared with me & if successful (or even not) I am intending to post the results of my efforts as soon as I've had a chance to try things out. As they will be my own work I'll not feel obliged to withhold anything.
As regards Me E's dies sets I'll say only this - they are pretty much what might be expected & I hadn't proceed with anything along those lines as I had thought there might be problems with such a set up, but it appears to work quite well.
As regards shortage of bullets and ammo - we here in the UK
are not immune from the whims of the USA
& I wouldn't have pleaded for info upsetting .308's if a decent .311 was available over here.
I am well aware of the point of forums but it appears I haven't come across so well as I might in this instance, for which I appologies again.
All I can now say is - watch this space.

I have just been reading through this thread. Mr E has been quite helpful & PM'd at least two other members with the same information he's sent me, ... so why the attack on me for not posting this stuff on the forum?
This process has formed part of his business in the past, as far as I can gather, & he has told me it may again which is why he doesn't want it widely publicised. I now find myself in the enviable position of upsetting either him or you just by asking for the sort of help usual on a forum such as this.
I'm saying no more for now.

I dont mind sending the info to forum members all you have to do is Pm your email to me and it will be done. I am trying to avoid making it searchable so thats why I have never posted the details on the web. I also never thought there would be so much interest in this subject.

Its not for me it is for my son who in 43 years time when he is my age wont have to scrimp and be held to ransom by some bureaucrats signature as I am still waiting for my HART barrel 6 months down the track from the USA
(As I said before also Kreiger, Lothar Walther, Bartlein are all snowed under)
Anyway as we have seen that as the ages go by things dry up and seeing as our govt in its infinite wisdom past turfed tonnes of 303 ammo into the ocean you get that????
I had and idea of taking the finished diam out to .312 whether the extra thou will cause a difference as the .312 Taipans shot well as we know barrels are getting tired and replacements on the $'s expensive side so trying to get and extra 1,000 out of them seems a good ploy and for some of us that will last us a few years.

I saw this a little late. I live in Austria
and most of the ammunition I get is S&B. I just ordered a box of bullets from them with diameter .311 (the box is marked 7,62, but some of them also say for .303 British
, and this is what they load in their ammunition.
I have a box of 123 grain, which are flat base and a box of 180 grain which are boat tailed. I have never reloaded this ammunition before, but I will play with it this winter when it is too miserable outside. I think I pay 15 Eurocents for the 180 grain and 13 cents for the lighter ones. I get it by mail order so I pay a little for transport as well, but we get a few people together to buy stuff at one time, so that is not such a problem.

"Russian
" bullets and barrels make for interesting study.
The 7.62 x 54 R for the old Moisin Nagants and the very latest belt-fed Russian toys was designed using the archaic, pre-metric Russian measuring standards.
The Moisin Nagant was called the "Three Line Rifle'; a "Line" being almost (give or take a thou') 0.100". "Three Lines" is pretty much .30 cal.
HOWEVER, almost everyone had their own ideas about "proper" GROOVE diameter and, by extension, BULLET diameter.
MOST "Russian" 7.62 bullets mike out in the region of .309 - .312; quite a range, but they seem to have worked fairly well for over a century.
I have used "Eastern bloc" projectiles for the 7.62 x 54R in .303 loads. I prefer NOT to because of the boat-tail, hence the interest in Mr. E's nifty technology to convert "modern" bullets into "old-fashioned" ones.

Well, the lighter ones are completely flat based but the heavier ones have a chamfer on them. It is more of an installation help than a genuine boat tail. If you like I can send you five of each in an envelope so that you can have a play. I guess it will take a couple of weeks to arrive, though.

Bumped up L2A2 Bullets to .311" and .323" et alia
These "Bumped up" bullets were made by Bruce Bertram ( Bertram Bullet Company, Seymour, VIC) back in the 1990s, using both MF/ADI 144 gn. projectiles and imported IMI (Israeli) M80 (US) 148 gn, Projies. I have several Packets of both .311 and .323" ( "8mm"..7,9mm for the Cognoscenti)...most were available at the many Gunshows that Bruce Visited when he first set up his Plant.
Nothing special...he just used the appropriate shaped Solid Shaping die with Meplat expeller Rod, and simply "Bumped up" the Milsurp Projectiles ( in a Factory Bullet Press). The L2A2 he got when Footscray closed and scrapped everything; the Israeli he got when he ran out of Aussie scrap. He was also importing Pre-formed Cups for Cartridge Drawing at the time from several sources.
AS to usefulness, these "Bump-ups" was Marginal. Good for Practice and Weekend Plinking, but not anything else. A niche to be filled at the time ( very hard to get cheap .311 and .323 Projies)
Of course, Now AVB-TS makes CNC "LEAD FREE" Projectiles in Military profiles, at affordable Prices
Currently .308 (US M2 and L2A2 Profiles) and .311 ( MkVII profile)
2015 release: Balle "D" Lebel, Geschoss "S" and "sS" Mauser, and Geschoss M30 (Steyr)
All Nominally "8mm" , but with diameters from .323" ( 7,9) to 326" (Lebel), and .329" (Steyr).
Brass Bullet weights about 5/6ths of Lead-core Bullets, about 7/8ths of Steel core (German
) Types.

I want to change diameter bullets S & B SPCE .323 to .330. Advice on how to?
