Are you sure that is an M1911? The butt looks very much like a Nambu to me from here.

I don't know what happened to the larger version. I thought it was a 1911A1.

I was able to save and zoom the photo and it looks like a 1911. With a lanyard?

It does look about like a .45 with a lanyard but I don't get how that could be a re-purposed shoulder rig(M3) or whatever...it looks like a Hunter style of left hand holster with a single strap over the grip. It has a tie down hanging from it too. I expanded to 250% also...

Jim, I believe you are right. After zooming in it looks like it may even have some designs stamped into it. For a lefty, it could be a custom made holster. Especially back then.
