Seriously beautiful, but shouldn't it have the black anodized butt plate? BTW, I saw a Long Branch micrometer sight at the last local gun show, and the guy wanted (wait for it!) $100.00!!!

A '42 "should have" a grey dimac/zamac alloy butt plate.

Nice rifle but others will pick up the split in the wrist and also the bottom section pushing into the wrist behind trigger guard screw, it looks like a peg mark at 1:00 oclock on the wrist there should be a very small gap between the wrist strap and wood Peter L or Brian D will no doubt offer support I would look up the thread for fitment of the Butt as further use may exasperate the split just trying to assist

That didn't look right to me either. The buttstock was loose when I acquired the rifle. I tightened the bolt, which cured the loose stock, but it seems to be drawn in too far.

The butt socket is actually a taper which squeezes down on the butt. As you pull it up, it tightens up in the taper. You need to take the shoulder back so that when the butt is what we Armourers call xxxxing tight, there is a gap, the width of a junior hack-saw blade, all around between the butt socket and the butt shoulder.
While it's apart, glue the split section and reinforce it with a peg too and it'll last forever

Talking of early Long Branches, I just bought a Long Branch 1941 No.4 Mk.1/2. I will post photos when it turns up. The serial number is 0L34XX. Some photos are here:

The owner has confirmed that he bought the rifle from the importer (AIM) in 2004, and has not changed any parts. If I screwed up, please don't let me know - at least not until after Christmas :P

The bolt was replaced, probably when converted to MkI/2 specs. At least the LB MkI cocking piece seems to have been swapped over though.
Is this your second or third LB MkI 'cracker?
