M12 barrel serial number question
I just picked up a barrel and a heat shield for a M12, its got the flaming ball on the barrel and its a parkerized barrel. Now the help I need is the serial number is 1039xxx and the Winchester serial number list puts it as 47 but on the bottom of the barrel is stamped 43 and from what I read this is common? now I am looking for a donour shotgun and am confused on what serial number to look for to get the same year. And also wondering what is the proper butt plate?

It's still going to be a mismatch after, you'll have no ordnance marks on the receiver anyway. You only have the barrel and heatshield? No mag tube?

Yup just a barrel and heat shield.

You're going to wind up with a complete civilian shotgun then with just the two military parts...wait, the answer to your year of manufacture will be along...

A Model 12 with that serial number would have been made in July or August 1944. It's a very high serial number for a Model 12 trench gun. I'm not sure one has been seen with that high of a number. They seem to end around 1035xxx serial range.
Can you post a photo of the flaming bomb mark on the barrel?
